Two Event Reflections
I’ve gotten to do two presentations for design students.
Both have been fulfilling and I love helping others, especially when I’ve been in a similar position.
September 2022 - Personal Branding Talk for Springboard design students
March 2023 - Career Transition Talk for interior design students
For the University of Oregon International Interior Design Association Oregon Chapter (UO IIDA)

Personal Branding Talk
My first opportunity to present was to current and alumni design students from the Springboard UX program.
I talked about my process of creating a personal brand and how to present yourself consistently across digital spaces.
All these students were career changers so I empathized with the challenge of reinventing yourself when your goals shift. I tried to leave the students with a sense of excitement for how they will develop their own personal brands and boost their confidence to take the challenge on.
IIDA - Career Change Talk
I was asked by the International Interior Design Association - Oregon chapter to present to students on how their interior design skills could apply to different career fields such as UX.
This was a special presentation for me since I had initially studied interior architecture prior to getting into the UX/tech fields.
I talked about the importance of defining what you want your life to look like both personally and professionally.
I walked through what I do at my current UX design job and how I still use a lot of the same skills I gained when initially studying architecture.
Lastly, I talked about the importance of building in public. Not being afraid to showcase your progress for whatever goal you’re working towards, this can help you expand your network and ultimately open new opportunities.
